Mainland Regions
The Mainland is comprised of interconnected Regions. Each Region is 65,536 sqm of virtual land in one or more parcels. You can bid on parcels of various size through our Land Auctions site.
Private Regions (Islands)
Second Life offers private Regions not connected to our Mainland for Residents wanting more control over their land. Regions are fully customizable - choose from 6 different terrains or terraform your own. You can even place multiple Regions together to make your own mini-continent!
Openspaces
An Openspace is a type of Private Region intended for light use, such as countryside or ocean. Openspaces run 4 regions to a single CPU, and support 3750 primitives. Openspaces are only available to Residents who already own Private Regions.
